Buena Onda is Good Vibe

The Buena Onda Surf Project is a bi-national organization that provides surfboards, mentorship, and life building skills to deserving boys and girls from the coastal communities of Oaxaca and California. We believe surfing is a positive activity that provides young people with a respectful relationship with the environment and develops self-confidence that may inspire them to explore new opportunities beyond their current circumstances. We invite you to join us in our effort to spread the Buena Onda spirit with kids from Oaxaca and California.

El Buena Onda Surf Project es una organización binacional que proporciona tablas de surf, tutoría y fomento de aptitudes para la vida a niños y niñas de comunidades costeras de Oaxaca y California. Creemos que el surf es una actividad positiva que le brinda y los jóvenes una relación respetuosa con el medio ambiente y desarrolla el autoestima que tal vez los inspire a explorar nuevas oportunidades más allá de su situación actual. Te invitamos a que te unas a nuestra causa de compartir el espíritu Buena Onda del surf con los niños y niñas de Oaxaca y California.

Nuestra Misión

To share the Buena Onda spirit of surfing with deserving boys and girls from communities in California and Oaxaca, México. Through the experience of surfing, we strive to empower our youth with life skills that build self-confidence, self-respect, respect for others, and an appreciation for the ocean and the environment.

Compartir el espíritu Buena Onda del surf con niños y niñas de comunidades en California y Oaxaca, México. A través de la experiencia del surf, nos esforzamos en darle a nuestros jóvenes herramientas de vida que generan confianza en si mismos, respeto por ellos y por los demás y un aprecio por el océano y el medio ambiente.

Our Story

Nuestra Historia

David Ruiz, the founder of the Buena Onda Surf Project, is a surfer and filmmaker born in Southern California. During his Fulbright Fellowship to México, David met Coco Nogales, México’s legendary big wave charger. Their mutual admiration for the ocean, and their strong desire to help kids in need, inspired David and Coco to form an alliance. Through Buena Onda’s efforts and Coco’s remarkable accomplishments, the partnership is committed to spreading the Buena Onda spirit of surfing to boys and girls in California and Oaxaca with community driven projects and initiatives that promote a positive, healthy lifestyle.
